I'm baaaaack!

School is over and I'm-a-knittin'!

I cast on for a One Skein Wonder last night. You know, just to get my feet back in the water. Feels sooooo good!

Secret Pal 7 Reveal!

So, I've been a super lame blogger lately. Lots has happened in the meantime. Lots of baking, crafting, knitting---no pictures, unfortunately. My camera will upload pictures to my comp for some reason. Interesting.....

Anyway, I found out who my Super Awesome Secret Pal is!! Jennifer! And I was spoiling Jill!

My last package from Jennifer was AWESOME. She totally outdid herself. I got tons of Candy--Razzles (YUM!), Jelly Belly's, and Orange Sticks--a orange scented candle--smells sooooo good. I actually saw these in Lucky Magazine and have been looking for them!!! Thanks!! Hot pink Duck Tape--sooo cool! (and totally me!) Yarn--the softest prettiest chunky Plymouth yarn. LOOOOVE it. I have been looking for just the right hat pattern to use it on. I can't wait. Total airplane project. And this greenish bluish varigated ball of yarn-not sure what it is--but it's awesome. And a copy of Knitting Magazine, from England. It's so cool! I love their terminology. "Figure-of-Eight", "going to uni". Awesome. I think I'm forgetting some stuff--there was a ton! As soon as I get a chance, I'll update with pics of the gorgeous yarn. Thanks Jennifer!! You rock!! SP7 was awesome. I had a great spoiler, and the girl I spoiled is super cool and does incredible knit work. I mean, gorgeous sweaters. And a cute cute kid.

I wish I had taken pictures of the pretzels I made before I gave them all away. I was quite impressed with myself. They were just pretzel rods dipped in chocolate almond bark, then drizzled with white almond bark. Nothing super fancy, but they looked really professional!!! I used my mini crock pot and melted the bark in that and it worked like a CHAMP!! It took several days to finish all my dipping (I did peanut butter balls, too), so I would just unplug and cover every night and then plug it back in the next night and it would melt back up beautifully. So...if you use melted chocolate for anything---use your crock pot!! Perfect for fondue, too!

I hope to do lots of knitting over Christmas. I have a feeling we'll have some delays on our flight to CT. Flying out of Milwaukee, layover in Detroit, arriving in Hartford. Doesn't that just SCREAM "weather delays"? And on Christmas Eve, no less! Well, I guess it will make for an interesting story, if nothing else! And for lots of knitting time! Hooray!

Coooookies!

I've been daydreaming of making cookies all week. So I finally did tonite. I made TONS of sugar cookies using the No Fail Sugar Cookie recipe I got off of cakecentral.com. Then it was time to decorate. Crap--this is taking longer than making the actual cookie!! I only decorated 6!!! I thought it would be easy. Wrong. Mine were struggling. Hard core. Behold:

The BYU cookies I cut freehand, so they're not all the same size like I'd like them to be. Oh well.

And for all interested, the progress on my watercolor:

There will be more chess pieces in that empty space at the top. Next week is our last class---uh...are we supposed to be finished by then??? I still feel clueless in there. Oh well. It was fun to learn, but I have a feeling I will not become addicted to watercolor. Maybe if I had more time to dedicate to it. Our teacher is so funny, a complete artist. Always telling us to do "what our souls tell us". Sooo touchy-feely. Nice, though.

I'm working on some booties for Derrick's co-worker. They're pretty cute so far-I'll post the pair when I'm done. Hopefully by Sunday. When I'm done nursing my sick husband back to health.

Pictures finally!

I made a fondant pumpkin cake for a party on Friday. But nobody ate it. It was then present at a party on Saturday. And nobody ate it. Once again Saturday night it made an appearance, and once again, nobody ate it. What's the deal???

Here's our jack-o'lantern. It brought us a win on Saturday!

What I've done so far in my watercolor class. See The Wet Donkey to vote for which picture I should paint.

A candy corn hat of my very own design for a friend's baby. Who is impossibly small, by the way. And impossibly cute.

And, I've been much to late in posting my recent package from my SP6!! Art yarns, Paton's yarn, Chocolate Orange sticks from Trader Joes (YUM!), and a cute froggy notepad. Thanks!!!!

Whew! That's all for now!!

Sometimes I amaze myself.

Tonite I made a cake. A cake I had been planning all weekend. A super cool cake I saw on Cake Central, which is pretty much my new favorite site. Ok, onto the cake!

First, I used two 8" strawberry cakes with strawberry preserves as a filling.

I frosted those in buttercream icing.

Then I used Wilton's Sports Ball Pan and made 2 halves out of pound cake. C'mon, admit it. You're laughing. You think they look like boobs.

I used strawberry preserves again as a filling, and made a ball, and put the ball on the round cake.

What in the world am I making????

Taaaa Daaaaaa!!

A basketball on it's way through the hoop!! Isn't it cool??? It's my first "real" cake. A star-covered cake. It took like 5 hours to make it start to finish, but I think it was worth it! (Especially since it's game 5 of the Angels/Yankees series and I have no shot at watching anything I want tonite) :/

I would usually point out all the flaws, but I'm not gonna do that tonite. I'm just going to bask in all it's beginning cake-making glory.

Next up--a cake with marshmallow fondant. Mmm!!

FO!

I finished the chemo cap last night. I have to be honest and say I'm not sad it's finished. I think it would have been better if I had used the right length needles. And those round plastic stitch markers suck. It's only handmade wire ones for me from now on. The plastic ones are just too big and leave huge gaps between my stitches. Why didn't anyone warn me about those??? Anyhoo, behold!

This shows the color most accurately. (Rowan Calmer, btw)

Hopefully you can make out the cables. If not, go to Knitty and see what it's supposed to look like.

For some reason, I can't take a decent picture of this thing for the LIFE of me!! I have no idea what the problem is. Really. I've tried everything. I'm excited to be done, so I can send it to my SIL, who will hopefully get some use out of it.

I've since cast on for the Multidirectional Scarf for my ma for Christmas. Using Noro Kureyon in a cool colorway I'd never seen before. #55. Grays and browns and light pinks and earthy and pretty. Hopefully she'll like it!

Oh, and for my Secret Pal, there's a picture of me wearing a scarf out of the "Beautiful" yarn you sent me on The Wet Donkey. You can kinda see it. It is soooo soft, and didn't itch once or anything. And kept my nice and toasty. :) Love it.

That's it!

Secret pal love

I got my first package from my secret pal on Thursday! (I know, I'm late in posting!!) Looky what I got!

2 skeins of "Beautiful" yarn, 1 huuuuuge ball of pink/black/gold yarn from Mermaid Yarns (I think--I'm too lazy to actually get up and check), a pair of Brittany Birch size 11 needles (very nice!! thanks!!!) and homemade stitch markers--cute cute! And starbursts! yum! Thank you thank you thank you!! Totally made my day!! I've since made the Beautiful into a garter stitch scarf--it is soo ridiculously soft, it was the only thing I could think of. Plus, it's so fuzzy, I wasn't sure how well stitch definition would hold up. I would take a picture, but every single freakin battery I own is dead. So maybe tomorrow.

The girl I spoil got her package this weekend and loved it! (or so she says...) I was most worried about the CD I made for her. You know, what if she hates the songs I picked or thinks I'm weird. But she LOVED it. Hooray! She said I must be reading her mind, or our iPods are linked somehow. So, relief for me. Now to think about her next package!

I'm crusing right along with the Chemo Cap. The recipient is in the hospital right now with an infected port and dangerously low WBC count. Gives me more incentive to want to finish it super quick and get it to her ASAP. If you can squeeze one more sentence into your already packed prayers, add her to them if you can. Please. Thank you.

As I sit and think about how it's October already (and where's my acceptance letter already????) I realize I haven't started one single Christmas gift. Ack!! I really gotta get crackin'. Like, now. Like, last month. Plus, my list of things I want/need to knit keeps getting bigger. There's the Log Cabin Afghan from Mason Dixon Knitters. Leg warmers for my scrawny shins. Baby clothes for at least 2 friends who are expecting. A tie for a friend...The list is neverending!!

Then why am I sitting here?? I should be knitting!
